Ibiza guide

My absolute favourite place on Earth is Ibiza. I visited the island for the first time in 2017 and it instantly captured my heart and soul. Ever since I have kept going back and each summer I return it feels like arriving to my second home. For me it something very enticing about this island, Ibiza has through history developed its very own unique Balaeric identity. The sun, the sea, the energy, the calm, the music, the flavours, the freedom.. I just feel so good being here. Below you find my guide and recommendations for the best restaurants, beaches and clubs on the island.

Restaurants

Casa maca

This restaurant has a beautiful setting on a hill. The food is really good and the atmosphere is amazing. I truly recommend this restaurant but be aware that it is a bit pricey.

Fish Shack

This little picturesque fish restaurant is set right next to the sea and offers a very unique and authentic experience. It does not take reservations nor cards so make sure you bring cash and are prepared to wait for your table. It is popular so if you arrive a busy time it will likely be a line.

Cotton Beach Club

A beautiful restaurant and beach club by the Cala Tarida beach. It is a lovely place to have a lunch, dinner or drinks. The view here is exceptional, you will not be disappointed. Also the cocktails and food are just delicious here.

El Chiringuito

This is a chic beach restaurant which also has sunbeds. The food here is delicious  with an interesting concept, the man behind this restaurant is the famous Israeli chef, Assaf Granit. There are no tables but the guests are invited to sit around a giant marble counter framing the kitchen.

Beach House

This restaurant is right next to Playa d’en Bossa beach and is a good place with a cool atmosphere. I like to go here for a lunch and there is also a beach club in case you want to sunbath afterwards.

Sunset Ashram

A very unique restaurant by the beautiful Cala Comte beach. Excellent food, especially seafood and sushi. The atmosphere here is everything and they often have a live Dj. This place is best experienced as a group of 3 or more because if you are only two you are usually given a table on the side which still has beautiful views but not really the same vibe. Even if I love this place service here is not the best in my opinion.

La Brasa

A charming dining spot in town with its beautiful garden terrace. This restaurant is famous for its grilled meats but you also find good seafood and other dishes here. It is very big and if you want to catch a spot in the garden terrace make sure you arrive early. It is a nice restaurant and very busy, so the downside is that you have to wait a long time to get service.

La Olivia

This is a restaurant in the old town, good food and service. Very nice but a bit touristy.

Beaches & Beach Clubs

Cala Bassa Beach Club

I love this beach club set by the beautiful Cala Bassa beach, it is quite a big complex consisting of both restaurants and beach clubs in several different areas. It is situated just behind the main beach which is public and usually gets very crowded. Great place to have a good meal while sitting with your feet in the sand.

Blue Marlin

This beach club is very famous in Ibiza and hosts parties as well. It is a nice place, with a fancier touch and good music.

Las Salinas

Las Salinas is a long beach situated on the south part of the island, it is a very nice, busy beach with many restaurants and beach clubs. I would recommend  Jockey Club or Beso Beach for a good lunch.

Cala Comte

This is my favourite beach on the island! You find Cala Comte on the west coast close to Cala Bassa. It is a bit difficult to get here since it is a narrow sand road (I do not think any buses or ferrys goes here) but it is definitely worth it when you arrive to the crystalline waters and beautiful soft sand. It is a very unique beach surrounded by these rocky stone formations. Stay until the evening and enjoy the view of the beautiful sunset before you go back home.

Cala d’Hort

This is a Cala d’Hort is another beautiful beach that offers stunning views of Es Vedra. There are a couple of restaurants here and lovely turquoise waters.

Ses Illetes

This beach is technically not on Ibiza but on its sister island Formentera and this is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The calm, clear turquoise water together with the fine, white sand is as close to paradise as you get. Being in a natural park you have to pay a fee to enter the beach by car or motorbike. If you go from Ibiza you also have to take a ferry over to the island which is fairly easy. You need to plan at least one day at this spectacular beach!

Clubs

Hi Ibiza

This is my favourite club in Ibiza, no let me rephrase it, this is my favourite club in the WHOLE WORLD! The whole layout of the dance floor, bars, bathroom, outside area and sound system is just impeccable. Being in the centre of Playa d’en Bossa just opposite Ushuaia, it also has an ideal location on the island. You will find many of the top Dj’s here, make sure to check out the calendar beforehand.

Cova Santa

This is both a restaurant and a club which is built around a natural cave. They organize many different themed events and if you are not to much into clubbing you can also go here for the restaurant only while still enjoying the atmosphere. The parties start outside but around midnight are moved inside (due to the noice and neighbours I suspect). Overall a very good place to have a fun night!

Ushuaia

Ushuaia is what you get when you mix a festival, a club and a bit of a pool party together. Here there are outside day parties which means that it starts at 5 PM and finishes at midnight. Since it finishes early this is also a good place if you do not necessarily like clubbing but just want to enjoy the music and atmosphere. Surrounding the club is its famous hotel which gives you free access to all the parties at Ushuaia.

Pacha

This is the most iconic club for Ibiza, its’ unique trademark with the two cherries is known all over the world. This place was started in 1973 and is today the oldest club on Ibiza. If you like music and clubbing this is a must visit.

Blue Marlin

Blue Marlin is the beach club that also hosts some really great parties from time to time. These usually finish around 2-3 AM and while the parties and drinks are great be aware that getting from this place can be a hassle (unless you are staying in one of the yachts by the shore). The taxi line usually grow very long once the party is over and the taxis are usually very few. So unless you want to wait hours on a taxi, make sure you leave before the party finishes.

Destino

Destino is the official Pacha hotel and sometimes they also throw outside parties here. If you are lucky and there is an event with a good Dj when you are at Ibiza make sure to check out this place! I have seen Sven Väth here and it was a really amazing party.

Good to Know

  • You should be aware that many popular places needs to be reserved 4-6 weeks in advance.
  • The taxis are limited and there is no Uber or really good app to book taxis on Ibiza. Instead you have to rely on booking taxis through calling on the phone or catching one on the street. Sometimes the wait for taxis can be extremely long, I sometimes had to wait over an hour. This is important to keep in mind if you have booked restaurants or are going to the airport, do not call the taxi in the last minute but rather a bit before if you want to be on the safe side.
  • In recent years there are more and more sellers on the public beaches of Ibiza. I do not usually mind but when there is a new seller passing by you basically every 30 sec this can easily be annoying and if you are a women you will surely hear rude comments. Also even when the public beaches are all fully packed and there is no room to walk between the people they will still find a way even if that means dragging the goods on you or having sand all over you. This is something to be aware about beforehand if you go to a popular public beach.
